Year 2 Advanced mathematics is part of the Excel Advanced Skills series which provides students with challenging extension work in Mathematics. Each book in the series supports the requirements of the Australian Curriculum (Mathematics) and covers the Strands of Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability.
FEATURES OF THIS BOOK:
There are 30 units of work, each with two parts, A and B.
Odd-numbered units have an additional two parts, C and D.
Parts A and B
These parts contain all the strands of Mathematics
from the Australian Curriculum.
Each part includes 14 questions
The topic of each question is in the same order
in each unit, with the questions becoming
progressively more difficult. Part A question 13 is
always a multiplication question, for example, and
Part B question 3 is always a fractions question.
This scope and sequence provides regular
practice that will extend the Mathematics skills
taught in school.
The format of each unit means students are
exposed to advanced questions from all topics
in the Australian Curriculum every time they
complete a unit.
A marking grid is provided to record results.
This easy-to-use diagnostic tool indicates at a
glance each student’s strengths and weaknesses
in relation to specific topics. The results can be
used to gather information about their progress
and revision needs
Part C
This part has nine problem-solving questions
covering all three strands of Mathematics from the
Australian Curriculum.
Space is provided on the page for students to
draw or write their working out.
Part D
This part is labelled Extra Challenges.
The format varies from unit to unit with the
questions drawing from the different strands
of Mathematics and requiring higher-order
thinking skills.
This part is designed to help students develop a
deeper understanding of mathematical concepts.
Parts C and D
The problems in these parts have real-life themes.
Themes provide a context for the questions and
make mathematical problem-solving more relevant
to students.
Two five-page NAPLAN-style tests revise the
knowledge students have gained from the units.
Answers to each question allow students to check
their work.
